Births, Marriages & Changing Your Name
Every birth and marriage in Australia must be registered. It is important to make sure births and marriages are registered properly because this is a record of your identity for life including when you start school, get your driver’s licence, apply for government benefits such as Centrelink and Medicare and when you get married and have your own children.
Ben and Tina just got married. They have 3 children together. The birth certificates for the children have Tina’s last name on them. Now that Ben and Tina are married, they would like to change the children’s names on their birth certificates to Ben’s last name so that they can all have the same last name.
