Intellectual Property & Copyright

Intellectual property is the original ideas which people have and make into things such as paintings, drawings, dances, songs and inventions. Copyright can protect these things from being used by other people to make money without your permission.

Mark is an artist who sells his paintings from the community art centre.

On a trip to the city to do an art course he saw postcards of one of his paintings being sold in a tourist shop. He remembers selling the painting from the community art centre but he knows that he did not give anyone permission to make copies of his painting and sell them to tourists.

He is very upset that someone is making money from his artwork without his permission.

Who can Mark contact for information or advice about this?
